System Administrator
As System Administrator you will perform system and network administration in a heterogeneous environment comprising Oracle Database servers, Windows-based servers, Linux-based servers, messaging systems and network & security equipment, such as routers, firewalls and cryptography equipment to support mission-critical applications. Your scope of tasks will vary widely. They include cabling, software installation, maintenance, training, user support, evaluating new software, as well as research for continuous improvement to meet future needs.
Your Tasks & Responsibilities
As System Administrator you will:
- Perform system and network administration for different types of servers and operating systems especially Windows and Linux;
- Manage multiple linked databases to include security, data safety and integrity, disaster recovery, and development and implementation of bulk data import/export procedures;
- Manage multiple servers, workstations, ensuring proper integration of these components with existing computer systems;
- Implement operating systems and product-specific security solidity;
- Perform performance tuning and capacity planning;
- Monitor and install patches for IT components;
- Implement system security policy including firewalls, server and client access, file permissions, user accounts and monitor intrusion detection systems;
- Recommend and implement IT infrastructure related activities, such as centralized backup, user management and storage management;
- Work in a team to implement the underlying processes supporting IT service management, such as configuration management and incident & problem management;
- Provide on-call consulting advice and technical support to various users/client organizations regarding specific operational/application issues;
- Design and develop advanced methods and procedures for collecting, organizing, interpreting, and classifying data for input and/or retrieval;
- Design and program specific applications in response to department/client needs;
- Install and debug new and/or upgraded software on server and client platforms, ensuring compliance with current site licenses, designs, programs, and manage websites and their associated web pages;
- Research, evaluate, procure, install, configure, and troubleshoot all hardware, peripherals, and equipment necessary to meet integrated system objectives;
- Troubleshoot networks, systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational problems;
- Develop and implement various training and instruction programs for users on the use of operating systems, networking, applications, and databases
Education
- Successfully completed study with a bachelors degree (S1) or above in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent;
- Minimum 3 years experience in the management of different types of servers including domain controller, web server, database server, proxy server, e-mail server and file server (required)
- Minimum 3 years competence in managing servers, workstations and IT network under Windows and Linux platform (required)
- Preferable experience with more than one Linux and/or UNIX-based operating system
- Experience with non-UNIX operating systems (Windows)
- Experience with internetworking, interoperability among operating systems
- Minimum 2 years experience with the configuration of server security, firewalls, network & security equipment, messaging systems, file systems & clustering software, scripting skills (Unix & Windows-based), router working skills
- Configuring network file systems;
- Knowledge with network file synchronization schemes;
- Experience configuring automounters;
- Experience configuring license managers;
- Experience configuring NIS/NIS+;
- Experience with TCP/IP networking protocols (ability to debug and program at the network level);
- Experience with non-TCP/IP networking protocols (for example, OSI, Chaosnet, DECnet, Appletalk, Novell Netware, Banyan Vines);
- Experience with complex TCP/IP networks (networks that contain routers);
- Experience with highly complex TCP/IP networks (networks that contain multiple routers and multiple media);
- Experience configuring and maintaining routers;
- Experience maintaining a site-wide modem pool/terminal servers;
- Experience with X/X terminals;
- Experience with dial-up networking (for example, SLIP, PPP, or UUCP);
- Experience at a site that is connected to the Internet;
- Experience installing/configuring DNS/BIND. Experience installing/administering Usenet news. Experience as postmaster of a site with external connections.
- Experience with network security (for example, building firewalls, deploying authentication systems, or applying cryptography to network applications);
- Experience with classified computing;
- Experience with multi-level classified environments.
- Experience with host security (for example, passwords, uids/gids, file permissions, filesystem integrity, use of security packages).
- Experience installing and using relational databases;
- Experience using a database query language;
- Experience installing and maintaining the network cabling in use at the site;
- Experience installing boards and memory into systems.
- Experience with SCSI device setup and installation;
- Experience installing/configuring peripherals (for example, disks, modems, printers, or data acquisition devices);
- Experience with board-level diagnosis and repair of computer systems;
- Experience with component-level diagnosis and repair of computer system.
- Required knowledge of data security and disaster recovery systems and procedures
- Knowledge of a wide range of network systems, protocols, and applications.
- Knowledge of LAN administration in a secure environment.
- Ability to determine computer problems and to coordinate hardware and/or software solutions.
- Knowledge of systems security protocol, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of data management techniques.
- Knowledge of a broad range of relevant multi-user computer systems, applications, and/or equipment.
- Ability to plan, implement, test, and troubleshoot system software.
- Knowledge of computer site licensing regulations and requirements.
- Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in related area of expertise
