Space Vehicle Controller Mission Boeing Opportunities

Space Vehicle Controller Mission Operations Planner 1\2
Location Springfield, VA
Requisition Number12-1005952
Closing Date: 03/28/2012

Position Description
Space Vehicle Controller Mission Boeing JobThe desired applicant for this position may be assigned either as a Space Vehicle Controller (SVC) or Mission Planner. Note that this position has a high probability of transferring permanently from Springfield, VA to Las Cruces, NM within the next 6 to 18 months. Candidate must agree to be willing to move to New Mexico should this position actually transfer. Position continuation in Virginia is also a possibility although it is less probable. An active TS/SCI or TS/SSBI is required and must be clearly identified on the candidate resume.

The Space Vehicle Controller (SVC) will be responsible for command and control operations of space vehicles (SV), telemetry monitoring, and execution and verification of products loaded to the Space Vehicle (SV). Primary responsibilities will include ensuring integrity of the ground system and command path in support of the mission. The SVC will use MS-Windows or UNIX-based computers for the development of the operational plan and analysis of data collected in support of planning future contacts or anomaly resolution. The SVC will be responsible for coordination with management and peers to ensure the integrity of high quality operational products, including procedures, tools, detailed event logging, and system configuration. This position will be required to analyze technical data, verify and sustain specific systems configuration in accordance with defined constraints and operational requirements. The SVC will monitor system performance and control system elements by executing commands to change the system configuration in order to achieve mission objectives.

The Mission Planner will be responsible for developing, integrating and verifying a conflict free resource schedule on a large scale satellite program. This plan serves as the basis of daily communications and special applications testing. The position requires interactive responses to complex operational and engineering software as well as real time analysis of test results to obtain desired outcome. Internal and external segment coordination is required to generate recurring, unique and special test activities. The position is also responsible for the initiation of timely contingency planning activities as a result of system problems or abnormal circumstances. This position may support future system testing and integration requirements. This position requires working a variety of fluctuating schedules (24x7).

Requirements:
The candidate must be willing to work rotating shifts which include working days, nights, weekends and/or holidays. This position requires the successful completion of a certification program. Candidate will be provided specialized training in order to learn the necessary skills related to ground and SV configuration management allowing them to obtain the necessary certifications required for this position. The certification requires a combination of self-study, in-class training and on-the-job (OJT) training. Since training prior to certification may last up to 5 months in some positions on some of the missions, the individual must be willing to stay in the initial position for a minimum of 18-months due to the nature of the cost and limited availability of funding for training. If no vacancy exists at the completion of training, the individual may continue training in other positions on same or different missions until a vacancy opens. Due to the high probability of position transition from Virginia to New Mexico, the likelihood of travel is high prior to actual transition.

Malaysia Airlines Jobs and Career

The story of Malaysia Airlines starts in the golden age of travel. A joint initiative of the Ocean Steamship Company of Liverpool, the Straits Steamship of Singapore and Imperial Airways led to a proposal to the Colonial Straits Settlement government to run an air service between Penang and Singapore. The result was the incorporation of Malayan Airways Limited (MAL) on 12 October 1937.

On 2 April 1947, MAL took to the skies with its first commercial flight as the national airline. Fuelled by a young and dynamic team of visionaries, the domestic carrier turned into an international airline in less than a decade.

With the formation of Malaysia in 1963, the airline changed its name to Malaysian Airlines Limited. Soon after, Borneo Airways was incorporated into MAL. Within 20 years, MAL grew from a single aircraft operator into a company with 2,400 employees and a fleet operator using the then latest Comet IV jet aircraft, six F27s, eight DCs and two Pioneers.

In 1965, with the separation of Singapore from Malaysia, MAL became a bi-national airline and was renamed Malaysia-Singapore Airlines (MSA). A new logo was introduced and the airline grew exponentially with new services to Perth, Taipei, Rome and London. However, in 1973, the partners went separate ways. Malaysia introduced Malaysian Airline Limited, which was subsequently renamed Malaysian Airline System or in short, Malaysia Airlines. Today, Malaysia Airlines flies around 50,000 passengers daily to some 100 destinations worldwide.

The aviation market has become more competitive with the rapid increase of the low cost carrier (LCC) segment, continued growth of the Middle Eastern full service carriers and revival in the fortunes of Asian full service carriers. In view of these challenges, this Business Plan outlines our near-term recovery plan to move us to profitability by 2013, as well as a set of ‘game changers’ to sustain our performance and create a platform for continued growth forMalaysia Airlines’ future.

Executing this plan is key to our recovery. It will require complete focus and commitment to make hard and difficult decisions in the next 24 months and the strongest determination to see these initiatives succeed. (Source: Malaysia Airlines)

British Airways Jobs Recruitment

Company Profile

Our customers and safety for all are at the heart of everything we do. Everyone at British Airways works together to deliver a premium experience from start to finish, from booking a ticket through to a safe and punctual arrival at one of our destinations. Some people might not interact with the customer every day, but everyone plays a part in making the jigsaw fit.

With our oneworld Alliance, our recent merger with Iberia and the Joint Business Agreement set up with American Airlines and Iberia, we’re able to offer a truly global network that extends to over 400 important leisure and business destinations. In addition, our product range is broader than many other full service airlines and we are continually looking at ways to improve our product offering for our diverse customer base. We were the first to offer four cabins on our longhaul flights, First, World Traveller Plus, World Traveller and the first flat bed business class, Club World. With our main hub at Heathrow Terminal 5 offering a world-class airport experience, we are in a strong position when it comes to a seamless, premium customer journey.

Our customers choose British Airways because they want the upgraded experience of a full service airline, access to a global network and trust our brand. We need to ensure we keep them coming back to us every time. We cannot afford to be complacent, not with increasingly innovative and strong competitors working hard themselves to win our customers.

British Airways celebrated its 90th anniversary on 25 August 2009. To mark the occasion, the British Airways Heritage website was launched on ba.com.

The British Airways Heritage Collection has existed since the formation of British Airways. It was formed to preserve the records and artefacts of British Airways' predecessor companies BOAC, BEA, BSAA and the pre-war Imperial Airways Limited as well as British Airways Ltd.

The collection comprises an extensive document archive recording the formation, development and operations of these companies and British Airways as well as memorabilia and artefacts.

Over 400 uniforms from the 1930s to the present day are preserved, as well as a large collection of aircraft models.

A historically important library of thousands of photographs is also available as well as probably the most complete set of aviation posters in the UK.

The British Airways Heritage Centre situated within British Airways Waterside Corporate Headquarters is manned by volunteers whose dedication, together with the generosity of donations of artefacts from many staff and former colleagues, has built the collection to what it is today.

The Heritage Centre is open for visitors and we look forward to welcoming you to see our collection. We welcome information, guidance and advice on the collection, particularly first-hand experiences from those who have played some part in our history. (Source: British Airways)

IT Graduate Programme 2012 British Airways

IT within British Airways is about technology and information across our business. It’s about keeping everyone up to speed. It’s about being at the cutting-edge. It affects everything we do – and so will you.

Our IT Department teams support our global business and are centred in Heathrow and Newcastle. This is where you’ll be based, though you’ll work closely with colleagues at other locations too.

On this 18-month programme, you’ll have placements with a cross-section of our IT teams and gain an overview of what we do. You’ll be given a solid grounding in the technologies and systems that keep everything running smoothly. You’ll also get involved in hands-on programming, coding, testing and design concepts, through to live implementation. Finally, you’ll work with our commercial clients to understand their business issues and identify innovative solutions that best meet their needs. You’ll be coached by mentors and have relevant training and developmental support, so you are far from alone whilst working on these projects.

It takes a particular blend of enthusiasm, skills and commitment to succeed – everything else you can learn. You’ll need a 2:1 degree in any discipline and a demonstrable interest in both IT and the airline industry, and in making IT your career. This includes undergraduates who expect to graduate with at least a 2:1 degree before July 2012. You must be available to start the programme in July 2012.

You’ll need to take responsibility for your own work and development as your training progresses. A logical thinker, with strong analytical, problem-solving and clear communication skills, you should be flexible, open-minded, inquisitive and aware of the business issues behind each project.

After the programme you’ll join us as an Infrastructure Engineer or a Software Engineer within the team that best suits your skills and our business needs. That will see you specify, deliver and support IT systems in a structured environment. You’ll look at business requirements and problems, design and develop solutions and ensure that performance is monitored and maintained. Better still, you’ll be developing a career to be proud of.

British Airways IT Graduate Programme 2012

If you have already tried computer programming, you will have a fair idea of whether a technical IT career is for you. If you have not yet had an opportunity, here is a little taster to help you see what programming is like.

IT Graduate Programme 2012
Ref: UKLHW2227
Region: UK
Location: UK

Job Description
Competitive salary and attractive benefits package

Graduates like you have made such a difference to our business, it’s no wonder we’re looking for more. People of your high calibre are helping drive an organisation that carries over 32 million customers to 145 destinations around the world in around 230 aircraft. In fact, graduates play a key role in the transition of the company.

If you have not already done so, please visit our Graduate Careers microsite for further information: www.britishairwaysgraduates.com

The IT graduate programme is aimed at developing our IT Professionals of the future. It is an 18-month entry-level Programme, which will train and develop graduates that have both an interest in and an aptitude for a career in IT. At the end of the Programme individuals will be equipped to fulfil their potential as IT Professionals within BA’s IT Department and in doing so get to experience an extraordinary breadth and depth of opportunities that IT departments in most other companies are unable to provide. To apply please complete all sections of the online application form, and answer the application questions.

The Programme
  • The Programme will start in July 2012 and, following a short induction period, last for 18 months. This will include varied work placements, that provide a combination of classroom training, mentoring and on-the-job development.
  • Throughout the placements, individuals will be involved in ‘real’ projects and receive ongoing coaching and support from experienced people. They will also work with their manager to set development plans against which they will regularly review their progress. Progress against these development plans will drive attractive salary progression, spread across the 18 months.
  • There will be opportunities for Programme members to meet with each other to share learning and ideas and, where appropriate, to participate in joint classroom training sessions.
  • At the end of the 18-month Programme, individuals will be placed into a role in one of our IT Department teams, the specific role to be determined at the time and dependent on the business priorities of the company and the individual’s own particular skills and aspirations.
  • This is a fantastic opportunity for graduates with a genuine interest in IT and in forging a long-term career as an IT Professional. It probably isn’t suitable, however, for those wishing to pursue a career in general management or other specific business functions, nor for those who don’t have their hearts set on a future as an IT Professional.

  • A minimum of a 2:1 degree in any discipline (ideally IT or IT-related).

  • Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities
  • The ability to work well with others and to communicate ideas clearly

To apply, you will need to successfully complete a series of online questions. These questions form part of the selection process and your responses will be assessed. This includes the following questions (please note the system has a time-out security setting so we advise you prepare these offline before submitting).
  • Please give the following details below. Please only give details of your 2:1 undergraduate degree (no other qualifications).
  1. What is your university and programme of study?
  2. Is your 2:1 achieved or predicted?
  3. Is this a UK 2:1 undergraduate degree or will you provide a NARIC verified 'statement of comparability'?
  • Describe what interests you about the British Airways’ IT graduate programme and why you have applied for it? (max 300 words)
  • As a recently appointed IT graduate, you have been asked to be involved with the design of a new application which cabin crew will use on BA issued mobile devices whilst in flight. The application is intended to enhance customer service onboard, as cabin crew will have direct access to passenger, operational and destination information. Data will be cached on the device while the aircraft is in the air and uploaded/downloaded on the ground. It will receive data from bookings systems and BA customer database as well as from third party websites. What factors and challenges would you consider when thinking of the design? (max 300 words)
  • The IT graduate campaigns will be based at either LHR or NCL locations. Whilst not guaranteed, do you have a preference for working in either NCL or LHR? Answers NCL or LHR or No preference.

We will be reviewing applications on an ongoing basis and the campaign will close as soon as we have found suitable candidates. Therefore we encourage you to submit your application at the earliest opportunity to avoid any disappointment.
