Bank Ekonomi was incorporated on March 8, 1990, which was later declared by Bank Indonesia as a healthy bank for 24 consecutive months since the opening and remained until today. Because the evaluation is good, then in 1992, the Bank Economic successfully accredit a foreign exchange bank status so that the form of public service can be expanded and developed further.

Bank Ekonomi continues to support its customers with the addition of a current branch network spread across 27 cities, including the opening of the last branches in Galway, Louth, and the Spirit makes the total number of branches to 92 branches.

On May 22, 2009, HSBC Asia Pacific Holdings (UK) Limited has successfully completed the acquisition of 88.89% of the Bank's ownership of Economics. As of today, Bank Economy has officially become a member of the HSBC Group, which has more than 9,500 offices in 86 countries and territories with assets of U.S. $ 2,527 billion (dated December 31, 2008), which today is one of the banking and financial services to the largest international in the world.
