Head of Takaful
Key functions/ main responsibilities:
- Creating and grow the country Takaful portfolio & marketing strategy in conjunction with the Country PCM and All Distribution Channel
- Preparing and update an annual Takaful budget and plan of activity based on market opportunities and established strategies.
- Developing new products and identifying alternative distribution systems, as well as promoting an increased awareness of bundled products, which require cooperation with Country PCM.
- Developing relationships with all peer group within the major producing firms, maintain contact with competitors as part of our market awareness and be familiar with regulatory entities that affect their position, e.g. trade associations, government bodies, etc.
- Responsible for achieving an underwriting profit, predicated on a specific combined loss and expense ratio agreed upon with senior management
- Responsible to reduce the expense component of the combined ratio in conjunction with Country PCM and All Distribution Channel. Manager and his staff have a responsibility for developing systems and procedural enhancements designed to maximize efficiency and reduce costs. Another aspect of expense management is the control of acquisition costs.
- Responsible to develop and training of the department’s professional staff countrywide
- Responsible to assist accounting, claims and legal in litigious matters where necessary
- Ad-hoc special projects or requirements that may arise from time to time.
- Possess recognized takaful insurance qualification and/or relevant tertiary degree from a recognized institution
- Solid insurance underwriting, risk management or broking background essential
- Risk assessment including new business reinsurance negotiations and developing renewal retention strategies.
- Experience in dealing with corporate business
- Possess relationship management and strong interpersonal skills
- Strong English written and verbal communication skills
- We also need someone who really understands the banking segment. Takaful will in the next 2 years at least be driven predominately through this vehicle.
- Someone also who understands how to engage banks, understands the processes and can provide a strong business development approach.
