Position Summary

The Derrickman operates, monitors and maintains all drilling fluid systems and equipment associated with drilling oil and gas wells from an offshore drilling unit; directs and coordinates work activities associated with drilling fluid system and equipment operations; and works aloft in the derrick and/or at rig floor piperacker console running and retrieving drill string sections from the well bore.

Essential Functions

• Participate in and contribute to appropriate drills including but not limited to:

Pit drill

i. Safety drill
ii. B.O.P. stack closing drill
iii. Accumulator drill
iv. Diverter drill

Properly operate drilling mud equipment including but not limited to:

i. Desander
ii. Degasser
iii. Desilter
iv. Centrifuge
v. Shale shakers

 Have operational and maintenance knowledge of mud room operations such as:

i. Mud pump fluid and power end
ii. Centrifugal pumps
iii. Pulsation dampener2.

• Have knowledge of the use and operation of well control procedures including but not limited to:

Pit drill
Kick control
Choke manifold
Diverter system
Gas detectors including H2S

• Maintains inventory of bulk mud and cement used during each tour of duty and reports to Driller for inclusion into International Association of Drilling Contractors log.
• Maintains logbook reflecting operating hours on mud pumps and maintenance performed.
• Maintains logbook of mud weights, volume, and viscosity readings taken throughout the tour while circulating system is employed.
• Prepares other paperwork and reports as directed by the supervisor.
• Participates in and contributes to the following activities:
• Safety meetings
• Training meetings
• Outside schools
• Safety drills and inspections
• Develops basic knowledge of all other rig departments and their functions for safe and efficient interface of job duties.
• Practices safety at all times while on Company property.
• Must represent the Company in a professional manner both on and off the job to include confidentiality of Company and client business.
• All other duties and functions as required by the supervisor.

Minimum Education and Skill Requirements

• Demonstrated ability of oral and written communications.
• Ability to bend, stretch, squat, kneel, conduct overhead work, walk for up to 12 hours.
