Main Tasks and Functions Bappenas described in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 4 and No. 5 of 2002 concerning the organization and working procedures of the Office of State Minister for National Development Planning / National Development Planning Agency, the main tasks and functions are reflected in organizational structure, the implementation process of national development planning, and composition of human resources and educational background. In performing its duties, the Head of Bappenas assisted by the Secretariat of the Main, the Main Staff of Experts and the Inspectorate, as well as seven deputies each in charge of specific areas.
Macroeconomic developments visible from several indicators that are expected to give an overview of the national economy both growth and economic crisis. To that end, programs of reform, economic and financial restructuring through fiscal and monetary policies, as well as support and agreements with international institutions continue to be pursued among others by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as outlined in the Jakarta Initiative and Memorandum of Economic and Financial Policies (MEFP ).
The role of industry and trade sector is directed to consolidate economic stability, in addition to trying to enhanced performance of the agricultural sector, and forestry development is emphasized in the rehabilitation of forests and critical land, development of plantation forests and forest people. In addition, business activities are growing rapidly tend to be aimed at the sector was vulnerable to monetary fluctuations, so that economic activity contracted load increases, and resulting in fewer employment opportunities, even during Repelita VI accretion labor force has been followed by the expansion of employment opportunities, both in quantity and quality.
More and improved transportation facilities and infrastructure as well as the development of tourism, post and telecommunications increased has meant an increasingly important role in supporting the overall national development. In addition to the irrigation sector in irrigation networks that are supporting the agricultural sector, mining and energy sector continued its role as the leading sectors that provide a source of energy, industrial raw materials and sources of state revenue.
