Job Description
- Knowledge of uses of cutting torch to fit and burn braces, beams, major lifting eyes and girders in position with required root opening and proper preparation.
- Build truss rows, jacket elevation or deck sections.
- Layout and install grating, handrails, beams and shapes, deck plate, troughs, stiffs, and anodes.
- Layout and fabricate walkways.
- Perform tacking and grinding operations.
- Plan sequence of operations, knowledge of blueprints, tape allowances for weld shrinkage, machining and thickness of metals.
- Locate and mark center lines and reference points onto floor or face block and transposes them to workpiece, using tape, chains, plumb bob and squares.
- Move parts into position, manually or by hoist or crane.
- Align parts, using jack, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, hammers, and come-a-longs.
- Has a knowledge of heat straightening and straightens warped or bent parts, using sledge, hand torch, straightening press.
- Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes or bold straps, or bolt parts in positions for welding.
- Use transit to locate reference points.
- Perform any combination of incidental tasks such as transporting tools, fixtures, and parts, assisting welders, reaming holes and sweeping area and sandblasting for welders.
- Perform housekeeping tasks to ensure work area is clean.
- Mentor and train lower level employees.

- Experience in Structural Fitting in Marine Fabrication Environment

- Must be able to pass a Structural Fitter's Test
