Senior Metallurgist

Reporting to the Processing Manager, the Senior Metallurgist provides planning, direction and management of specific tasks related to metallurgical and ore processing work associated with project definition, design and operating techniques and methods. This is a fly in / fly out roster position.

The key roles and accountabilities include:

• Manage all components of the technical studies which will incorporate multiple engineering disciplines. Such studies will also be required to incorporate financial assessments with specialist consultants called upon as required.
• Provide innovation on plant designs to ensure efficiency and effectiveness e.g. water/mass balances, block and PFD development, P&ID’s, processing modelling, unit specification reviews, and control reviews.
• Contribute to the process design – Facility Scope descriptions, basis of designs, process design criteria, PFD’s and major equipment selections for PFS and DFS.
• Contribute to EPCM process related register entries, design change notices, variations, vendor technical evaluations and technical queries as directed.
• Have active involvement in operability and maintainability reviews.
• Take an active role in the provision and review of EPCM design inputs and deliverables in an effective and timely manner.
• Interact and liaise with EPCM process engineers, contractors and vendors.
• Manage aspects of a project with responsibility for cost and project quality consistent with good engineering practices.
• Provide effective communication with executive management teams, subordinates, consultants and contractors.
• Supervise laboratory and pilot test work off-site ensuring sufficient and quality data collection for subsequent evaluation.
• Instigate corrective actions to remedy any non-conformances.
• Develop accurate and complete metallurgical scopes of work for externally contracted works.
• Prepare accurate and professional quality study reports or other deliverables.

The successful candidate will possess the following key criteria:

• A degree in Minerals Processing Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy, minimum 8 years post graduation. Demonstrated experience in base metals processing and tertiary studies within a Process / Metallurgical discipline.
• Experience in study and/or project management and business evaluation is highly desirerable.
• Significant operational experience in base metal mineral processing plants.
• Sound technical knowledge of base metal flotation.
• Skilled communicator.
