Geotechnical Engineer
Reporting to the Planning Superintendent, the Geotechnical Engineer will provide professional technical support to DPM operation, develops short to medium term plans to ensure safe ground support and the mining targets are met, undertakes project work and trouble-shooting as required, establish and maintain required safety and engineering standards to meet geotechnical requirements.This is a fly in / fly out roster position.
The key roles and accountabilities include:
- Establish and maintain geotechnical engineering standards.
- Assist in development of LOM mine plans, designs, budgets and other related activities.
- Ensure that all ground support/reinforcement is designed to a set standard.
- Ensure that the required geotechnical data is collected, analysed and interpreted.
- Ensure that ground monitoring systems are used and maintained.
- Ensure that audit, review and quality assurance programs are carried out regularly and documented.
- Provide geotechnical assistance in development of mine planning standards and procedures.
- Conducting site geotechnical audits and inspections as required.
- Accountable for selection, maintenance and calibration of all geotechnical systems, instruments, software and hardware.
The successful candidate will possess the following key criteria:
- Tertiery degree in Mining or Geological Engineering or similar.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience, of which 2 years as a Geotechnical Engineer in underground hard-rock mining.
- Proficient in numerical modelling package such as DIPS, UNWEDGE or similar.
- Possess relevant computer skills in word processing, mine planning and use of spreadsheets.
- Competent user of mining software, Micromine, Datamine, Surpac or Vulcan.
- Understanding of the paste fill systems and technology.
