VOA Indonesia began broadcasting in 1942, shortly after the U.S. government established the VOA. And since then, VOA Indonesia continues to be in the air. During the first 56 years, people in Indonesia is only able to capture the VOA shortwave radio transmitted from outside Indonesia. However, since the reform era that began in 1998, press freedom and an end to government control over mass media, allow VOA to take the affiliate strategy to disseminate TV and radio programs. Now, the VOA has more than 240 FM and AM radio affiliates throughout Indonesia. More than 80 percent of VOA listeners catch a variety of programs on radio VOA affiliate. Beginning in 2000, VOA expanded its wings to produce television programs. VOA television programs can be watched on most television stations nationwide and over 30 local television.

Stringer

Description of Work:

• Stringer in Indonesia doing research, writing and doing voice-overs for their broadcast material. They send reports for VOA Indonesia in Washington, DC, and was rewarded when the report aired.

Employment status:

• Stringer was appointed as a reporter loose and paid according to the work produced. Stringer can obtain a press identification card from the VOA. Stringer did not get benefits like health insurance or get paid while on leave.

Visa and Work Permit:

• Stringer implement all aspects related to their work in Indonesia, therefore does not require a work permit from the U.S. government.

qualifications:

• Stringer must demonstrate fluency in Bahasa Indonesian and has a journalism background. Most VOA stringer work for print or electronic news organization in Indonesia. Candidate must be a journalist stringers who have outstanding coverage of radio equipment, internet access and fax machines to get in touch with the Washington, DC.
