Position Summary

• This position is ideal for an individual that thrives in a fast-paced, ever changing work environment where you encounter new challenges each day. Creative problem solving and the desire to innovate are key attributes to possess in order to succeed in this role.
• The mandate of the Test Automation team is to ensure that the quality of the core applications running on the BlackBerry devices continue to meet and exceed the expectations of our users. To assist in the meeting of this goal the team has designed and created an extensible automated testing solution that allows for rigorous testing in a short period of time. The entire solution including the testing framework and the test cases themselves are written in Java/C++.

Responsibilities

• The successful candidate will be responsible for improving existing solutions as well as creating new testing solutions. This will require a solid understanding of the current architecture, to the point where they are able to design and implement new modules that will tie in seamlessly with it.
• It is expected that the candidate will be comfortable independently moving an idea through all stages of the development cycle, including proto-typing and proof of concept, design, implementation and finally testing. In general this will also require the candidate to collaborate and work closely with other development teams within both the Applications and OS department and he/she must be comfortable in doing so.

Qualifications

Essential Skills And Qualifications

• In-depth understanding of Java/C++ programming languages and object oriented design
• Ability to work independently to solve problems that are diverse in both scope and type Solid understanding of multi-threaded design and ability to debug multi-threaded systems
• Firm grasp of common design patterns and how to apply them in real world situations
• Understand the relationship between a Java Virtual Machine and native code

Additional Assets

• Previous experience with automated testing procedures
• Previous experience with J2ME
