Job Summary:
This position is responsible for managing and participating in the technical support functions performed for users of IT services company-wide, overseeing staff development and team coordination. This position makes daily operational decisions regarding the support functions which fall within the scope of Network Operations, and recommends tactical steps for ongoing initiatives. Also acts as primary network support liaison with respect to other system services teams, and internal customers (users).
Responsibilities:
- Recommends and manages the implementation of architecture components for network infrastructure hardware and software.
- Provides input for the capital budget for network and telecommunications hardware and software.
- Evaluates and recommends vendors and negotiates the purchase of network hardware, software and telecommunications equipment.
- Manages the standards for the design and implementation of the network infrastructure and insures conformance with established standards.
- Contributes to the definition of requirements and specifications for assigned corporate applications, and supervises the installation and maintenance of these applications.
- Evaluates and recommends new/improved information technology, especially in line with long changing company requirements and new technology available in the market place.
- Assists in the development of IT related policies and enforcement methodologies.
- Administers hardware and software maintenance contracts.
- Manages organizational and staffing requirements for assigned functions, selects, assigns and trains subordinate personnel, and recommends associated personnel actions.
- Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems or equivalent work experience.
- At least five years of related technical and managerial experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the functions, capabilities, protocols and applications of local area networks and wide area networks.
- Broad knowledge of data communications networking concepts, methods and techniques.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of networking and routing technologies.
- Ability to program in at least two generally- accepted computer languages.
- Ability to work independently and to recognize, analyze and solve complex computer network problems.
- Proven skill in assessing the feasibility of new network hardware and software and how they can most effectively be implemented.
- Sound business judgment in the assessment of alternatives and formulation of recommendations.
- Skill in communicating and working effectively with users at all levels.
- Demonstrated skill in accomplishing desired results through others, including determining objectives and making assignments, monitoring and assessing performance, and providing support in the resolution of technically-demanding propositions.
- A+, MCP, or MCSE Certifications a plus.
- Knowledge of backup software a plus.
- Experience in a mid-size to large corporate environment
- Experience with HP server hardware a plus.
- Work requires trouble-shooting and resolving user network problems, some of which may be urgent. Frequent after hours duties to meet job requirements.
- Travel is required on an ‘as needed’ basis, project support at satellite offices may require travel with overnight stay.
