Responsibilities:

• Emerging Technologies theme is accountable for creating and executing a robust program of technology discovery, development, integration and deployment in the area of sustainable energy domain, working seamlessly with internal and external stakeholders. The mission and primary purpose of the position is to support the theme objectives by engaging in one or more of the following aspects: lab-scale and pilot-scale experimentation, process development and simulation, techno-economic evaluation, information gathering and opportunity development, etc.
• HSE performance, commitment to Goal Zero.
• Conduct detailed analytical and experimental work involving alternative energy R&D and Innovation.
• Keep abreast of external and internal developments in emerging low-carbon and renewable energy technology and businesses, and develop ideas and processes of value to Shell.
• Personal accountability in the execution and delivery of one of more projects that may involve internal and external stake-holder/partners.

Requirements:

• PhD in chemical engineering or a related engineering discipline, with preferably above 3 years of industrial experience.
• Track record of research and innovation demonstrated through publications and patents or practical project accomplishments.
• The successful candidates are expected to develop in-depth expertise in one of more of the following areas: process (fossil and renewable resource conversion) development from bench to pilot scale, chemical process modeling & design, and techno-economic analysis of commercial energy processes or systems.
• Chemical process engineering: bench to commercial scale, experiment and simulation. Energy production and storage, catalysis and techno-economic analysis.
• Deliver results on time.
• Team work, communication, relationship building/customer focus.
• Working in a small local team but with extensive connection with global team distributed in three locations (Amsterdam, Houston, Beijing) as well as with external partners in China.
• Accelerated personal development through formal and on-the-job training, while delivering project results.
• Have the aspiration and ability to conduct detailed technical and analytical tasks with a strategic perspective.
