- Operations Research functions as an internal consulting group providing quantitative analysis and decision support throughout the airline.
- Assignments within OR will typically involve quantitative and qualitative analysis of a business situation, model prototyping, development of recommendations, and written and/or oral presentation of those recommendations.
- Assignments will involve projects affecting many different areas of the airline.
- These include Revenue Management, Network Planning, Crew Scheduling, Pricing, Operations Control, Cargo, Maintenance and Engineering, and Airport Planning.
- Quantitative techniques utilized will include forecasting, mathematical programming and other optimization techniques, simulation, stochastic modeling, data mining, decision analysis, and artificial intelligence as appropriate for the situation.
- A significant component of many assignments will be the implementation of prototype solutions using third-party optimization, statistical analysis, and simulation tools (XPress, CPLEX, SAS, or ARENA) or programming languages such as JAVA and C++.
- An advanced degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering or a related field (MS or PhD) is required.
- Successful candidates will have a demonstrated aptitude for logical analysis, problem identification, and problem solving as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Assignments may involve Business Process Analysis, benchmarking, and the application of Six Sigma concepts.
- The ability to use computer-based tools and programming languages to implement solutions is required.
- Experience solving large-scale problems and familiarity with the airline industry are a plus.
