Description

Reporting to the Director Crude Oil Accounting, the successful candidate will perform marketing accounting functions related to the Canadian Crude Supply and Trading Business.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance, leadership and oversight to team members responsible for commercial crude oil accounting and refinery Finance and Performance Analysis (F&PA) activities
• Provide support to both internal and external stakeholders as it relates to commercial crude oil transactions
• Provide leadership to the Crude Oil Marketing and Trading accounting team to ensure the accurate and timely completion of the accounting responsibilities including marketing and refinery margin analysis, U.S. and Canadian GAAP reporting, physical and financial transactional accounting, balance sheet account reconciliations, foreign currency analysis, inventory analysis and cash settlement.
• Strong leadership skills to:

Interface with the local B.U. Commercial Crude leadership and trading personnel on a daily basis to provide support on technical and strategic issues
Communicate and explain monthly financial results to the L48 refinery F&PA management team

• Assist in setting departmental goals and processes to achieve them
• Establish and monitor internal controls and SOX 404 compliance, ensuring that relevant internal controls are in place and adhered to
• Ensure volumetric and valuation accuracy of inventory on both a FIFO and LIFO basis
• Provide advice and guidance to operations to ensure accounting records accurately reflect the financial impact of operational issues
• Provide accounting expertise by developing and implementing procedures and guidelines based on corporate and professional standards
• Manage the crude oil storage positions for the supply and trading business

Qualifications

Basic/Required Qualifications

• Minimum Bachelors degree in a relevant field, preferably Accounting or Finance
• Minimum 5 years relevant experience
• Strong accounting and finance knowledge
• CMA, CGA, CA designation is considered an asset
• Legally entitled to work in Canada on a full-time basis without restrictions

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Excel and SAP
• High level of initiative, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and multi-task
• Must be able to work effectively with minimal supervision in an open trade floor environment
• Excellent communication skills with a continuous improvement mindset
• Understanding of Crude Oil accounting
