Quantitative Intrepteation Geophisicst

Shell JobsShell has been exploring for, and producing, hydrocarbons for over a century. Today, Shell is a global group of energy and petrochemical companies. Our aim is to meet the energy needs of society, in ways that are economically, socially and environmentally viable, now and in the future.
Are you looking for a challenge that will push your career beyond its limits? Do you want to tackle real world problems? If you have the passion and expertise, you could help deliver better energy solutions to power people’s lives in a groundbreaking and rewarding environment.

As a (Senior) QI Geophysicist you will execute integrated QI projects to improve reservoir characterization and pore-fill prediction in support of exploration, appraisal and field development projects. You will be required to define the scope of a quantitative interpretation project, evaluate the different methods and workflows, examine suitability of existing data and rock properties for QI, propose the most effective approach and execute the QI project yourself. In doing so you will need to liaise closely with all stakeholders in the project to ensure that the data used is fit for purpose, or otherwise propose necessary improvements. You will need to generate appropriate data volumes, diagnostics and interpretation of those. Typical QI studies may comprise the full spectrum from modeling hydrocarbon effects, well to seismic matching and T-Z conversion to full elastic and probabilistic inversions using 3D and 4D data. You will be working in a high technology environment with access to “state of the art” IT infrastructure and software tools, and a wide range of specialists worldwide to help you solve non-routine problems. Depending on experience you will be expected to coach more junior staff.

Requirements:
We are looking for Geoscientists or Petroleum Engineers with strong skills in Quantitative Interpretation of seismic data, who are well equipped to integrate geological, geophysical and petrophysical data and models to arrive at a proper quantification and uncertainty estimation of key prospect and/or reservoir parameters. This position as a (Senior) Quantitative Interpretation Geophysicist requires solid experience, part of which has been obtained in an operating environment. It should include Skill/Mastery level in several of the core discipline areas of Quantitative Interpretation techniques, tools and workflows outlined below. In addition you should have an excellent understanding of static and dynamic reservoir modeling with a proven track record and experience in working in multi-disciplinary teams.

Key competencies

1. Initiate Quantitative Interpretation – Define a quantitative interpretation project in support of geological and business requirements, evaluate the different methods, examine suitability of existing data for QI and propose the most suitable method and data for the QI project.

2. Perform Velocity Modeling and Time-to Depth Conversion – Perform advanced velocity modeling and/or T/D conversion techniques, generate diagnostic displays to relate velocities to the geology to generate time and velocity maps or volumes, perform time-to-depth conversion using various techniques and quantify uncertainties.

3. Provide input into Field Development/well planning – Assure the appropriate input into the Field Development Plan or well by taking the following steps: Seismic-to-well calibration and modeling. Next build hydrocarbon, fluid and rock property inventory. Quantify amplitude effects on seismic data and perform seismic inversion. Determine pressure prediction from seismic velocities and provide input into field development plan/well planning.

4. Perform 4D Modeling – Assess feasibility, compare observed seismic differences with prediction. Conduct forward modeling, quantify model uncertainties and constrain dynamic models.

5. Evaluate and Visualise Multi Attributes Data Volumes – Assess quality of data and investigate requirements. Derive required predictive attribute volumes, create classification volumes for structure, facies and AvO. Visualise and QC results; interpret derived attribute volumes using 3D body- and 3D fault extraction and event-constrained methodologies. Calibrate relevant attribute volumes against seismic and geological well data, extrapolate results away from well control. Quantify uncertainties for input into prospect evaluation risk assessments and/or 3D static models.
