Responsibilities:
Shell's Project & Technology Group is currently in the front end development of a number of multi-billion dollar Gas Monetization opportunities in North America. The projects, located in the USA and Canada,fit within Shell’s strategy to responsibly meet global energy demand by tapping abundant natural gas reserves.
We are looking for highly motivated construction managers with relevant large project experience to join our dynamic team of professionals in developing and executing the growing portfolio of Downstream and Midstream Gas Projects in the Americas. The primary purpose of the position is to provide construction input during Front-End Development of these large projects, then be accountable for construction performance during execution. The value added from robust construction and constructability input during front end can be as much as 10% of direct field labor. This is a substantial area for improvement in Shell Front End Development. The incumbent will support the respective Project Manager in the development and assurance of the Construction deliverable and activities during Front-end Development.
Additionally the Construction Manager will be accountable for:
- Providing early construction input for Head Office major projects in areas such as;
- Construction Contractor screening criteria
- site selection, along with associated impacts and regrets
- labor impacts
- module execution strategy
- offsite fabrication
- material handling and transport plans (barge, rail, road, etc)
- contracting and procurement
- Developing the Construction Execution Plan and the Preliminary Path of Construction
- Developing a Labor engagement plan
- Developing and maintaining a preferred jobsite that demonstrates high standards in Worker Welfare
- Managing the Constructability work-process activities with the EPC(m) and other consultants
- Championing efficient Work Face Planning/lean construction as an objective of the Execution Plan and the associated Contracting Strategy
- Ensuring construction has an effective voice during Front End Development and Execution and that proper weight is given to construction issues in the development of execution strategy and design
- Championing Top Quartile performance against measurable construction targets as part of the overall project TQ gap closure plan
- Leading the integration of effective construction contracting into the overall project execution strategy
- Designing and building the construction organization
Requirements:
- Must have legal authorization to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university or relevant work experience in a technical discipline
- minimum of 15 (fifteen) years broad construction experience preferably within the Oil and Gas Industry
- Demonstrated experience in an accountable role for construction n large projects ($500 million or more) in either a Project Manager or Construction Manager role
- Familiar with best practices from construction industry associations such as Construction Industry Institute (CII), Construction Owners Association of Alberta (COAA), and Independent Project Analysis (IPA)
- Must have the shared vision that GOAL ZERO on construction sites is possible, and also must be able to translate that vision into a preferred worksite that demonstrates GOAL ZERO.
- Expected that candidates have direct experience with construction Life Saving Rules.
- Demonstrated experience as Construction Manager for large projects ($500 million or more) in either a Project Manager or Construction Manager role
- Demonstrated experience in project delivery including a background in various aspects of project execution – front-end, design, procurement, fabrication, installation, commissioning and start-up
- Demonstrated experience in commercial negotiations and contractor management
- Demonstrated experience working in a Unionized environment
- Flexibility to relocate to alternative locations as determined by the execution strategy and project phase requirements (The initial location will be Houston, TX)
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Demonstrated experience in Global and International management
- Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholders demands and issues on a Global scale
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects and deadlines
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
- Demonstrated experience in HSSE and quality management
