Role synopsis The Global Oil Valuation team has two primary accountabilities: maintaining accurate prices and performing validation of curves for the Oil trading business. Reliable prices and curves data are a critical component to an efficient and effective trading environment enabling informed trading decisions, accurate calculation of exposure and P&L, straight-through processing of settlements, and measurement of risk.

The Valuation Analyst will be part of a global team working in conjunction with colleagues in Global Oil regional businesses as well as the front office and Product Control in fulfilling the Valuation team’s accountability.

Key accountability:
  • Ensure adherence to all GEOD (Global End of Day) standards
  • Perform bi-monthly Curve validation process and analysis
  • Coordinate validation and metrics reporting across regions to ensure consistent delivery
  • Whenever needed, partner with both Front and Middle Office to define new curves. Activities can include building, maintaining and/or validating forward curves for commodities that Global Oil transacts
  • Collaborate with Risk on optimizing and standardizing the use of models for either P&L calculation or for validation
  • Compile reportable deals and ensure they are delivered to respective reporting agencies. Follow up with Front Office and control managers on any discrepancies
  • Interact with the brokerage and exchange community to enhance data breadth and integrity
  • Support and complete business analysis on all IT related projects to ensure consistency and control
  • Create and develop processes and procedures that enhance current Mark-to-Market (MTM) policy
  • Provide clear and concise metrics reporting as needed
  • Provide automation and support to analysts and management alike by creating standardized reporting and analytic
  • Support TCT through the various releases as planned in their project phases
  • Partner with IT to understand system interactions and functions to deliver time-sensitive MTM information
  • Deliver relevant and consistent feedback to Risk team in support of MVAR and MTM policy
  • Provide value-added support to the Front and Middle Office through data control and analysis
  • Ensure that data flows are reliable and consistent and constantly seek to improve data sources for greater quality, availability and timeliness
  • Review and strengthen where appropriate internal controls and processes
Essential Education:
  • University Degree with an analytical/financial concentration (advanced degrees provide an advantage)
Essential experience and job requirements:
  • Microsoft Access database and advanced Microsoft Excel skills including VBA programming
  • Other essential skills and knowledge 5 years Finance, Control experience (Valuation experience in commodity trading is a plus)
  • Trading environment experience with an emphasis on Middle Office processes and the application of MTM valuation
Desirable criteria & qualifications:
  • Knowledge of financial data, data providers and trading position valuation
  • Demonstrated ability to engage diverse stakeholders and service providers
  • Prior system knowledge not limited to but including Asset Control, Sungard ESS, Reuters, Business Objects
