Role synopsis

The primary purpose of the role is to lead and provide engineering assurance for the Coal Bed Methane appraisal drilling project within the Region. In carrying out this role the SDE interfaces principally with the subsurface well planning teams, the drilling engineering team and other functional teams within the Region.

Role synopsis

Key accountabilities
- Assure drilling designs meet BP and regulatory policies and standards i.e. DWOP, ETPs and STPs with the dispensation and risk assessment for any non-compliance.
- Deliver and save compliant wells.
- Manage the design and engineering for the delivery of the assigned project activity set in appraise/select to the planned schedule and quality to support the delivery of the projects.
- Lead the engagement of other disciplines.
- Guide drilling engineers in the consistent and quality driven production of BtB deliverables for drilling activity:
- Wells input to SOR
- DCUS
- AFE
- Well Specific Risk Assessment
- Well Program
- Lessons Learnt Implementation
- EOWR
- Prepare and maintain well BODs (casing, cementing. Directional, drilling fluids, etc) to ensure wells are drilled within the boundary conditions of these documents.
- Ensure the MOC process is followed.
- Review drilling programs/operational procedures and ensure drilling and technical objectives are adequately defined and met.
- Primary interface of service partners; monitoring performance and technical integrity. Manages Supplier Performance to obtain quality kit, equipment and service from contractors and service providers, to deliver well objectives,
- Define quality assurance requirements for drilling long lead equipment, including production of equipment SORs where required.
- Provide support for operational teams as required.
- Participate in post well reviews in conjunction with drilling operations engineers and subsurface teams. Ensure well planning lessons are recorded and implemented in new wells.
- Provide drilling technical input to Wells contracts and contracting strategy
- Provide coaching and mentoring for development of drilling engineers and challenge drilling engineers to increase competency levels.
- Organize peer reviews and lead DWOPS for operational readiness/Define to Execute Stage Gate.
- Participate in post well reviews in conjunction with drilling operations engineers and subsurface team.
- Technical reviewer of operations MOCs/UERs/NCRs prepared by drilling engineers and operations team.
At minimum Bachelor's Degree in relevant engineering discipline.
Essential experience and job requirements
- Minimum 12+ years of experiences in drilling engineering, specifically with the Coal Bed Methane/Coal Seam Gas drilling experiences.
- Understand all aspects in drilling engineering such as but not limited to well plan BoD, AFE generation, Technical Limit Plan, Well Specific Risk Management, DWOP.
- Fluent in English, verbal and written.
- Computer literate with skillful application of drilling engineering soft wares
- Self motivated.
