THE OPPORTUNITY
The successful candidate will join the Complex Matrix Characterization & Metabolomics Group at Philip Morris Products S.A. in Neuchâtel, Switzerland and will perform method development and analysis in support of studies conducted to identify and quantify aerosol constituents and metabolites in biological matrices.Specifically, you will:
- Develop and apply GC- and/or LC-MS/MS methods for the screening of metabolites in biological matrices
- Perform characterization, identification and quantification of small molecules as well as proteins in complex biological matrices using classical and state-of-the-art mass spectrometric instrumentation
- Perform non-targeted screening and metabolomics on biological matrices
- Identify metabolites and quantify macromolecular adducts in biological matrices
- Work in a team to prepare samples and generate scientific data
- Maintain, operate and troubleshoot GC- and/or LC-MS/MS instruments and other analytical equipment
- Write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), research protocols and study plans
- BSc or MSc in chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry or equivalent biomedical qualification
- Three to five years of hands-on experience in bioanalytical method development, validation and sample analysis using GC- and/or LC- mass spectrometric techniques
- Practical experience in advanced mass-spectrometric techniques using high resolution MS (FT-ICR, Orbitrap), GCxGC-TOF, GC/LC-MS/MS with a primary focus on advanced LC-MS techniques
- Practical experience of mass-spectrometric targeted and non targeted screening techniques
- In-depth knowledge of LC-MS techniques and sample preparation is essential
- In-depth knowledge of mass-spectrometric related techniques like MALDI, ESI and APCI would be an asset
- Mass-spectrometric software and database management skills
- Significant experience with the development of study protocols, SOPs, validation and analytical reports
- Experience working in accordance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) would be an asset
- Well developed communication skills, problem solving skills, creative thinking as well as the will to be a team player
- Fluency in both spoken and written English
