Within the EHS team, the Head of Medical Services for the Belgian sites will manage a team of more than 10p.

Job Purpose

• The purpose of this role is to Support the Belgium operations by providing best in class occupational health support through a strategic and clinical approach.
• The job holder will contribute to the health strategy within the Biologicals business Belgium and be responsible for delivering the said strategy.
• Set up the strategic organization of a mixed service model, that enables the delivery of GSK’s mission

Responsibilities

• Deliver services to implement GSK & GSK Bio’s health strategy. This includes the leading and management of the GSK staff and external providers to deliver those services. Report to the EHS Director Belgium and functionally to the Global Medical Director.
• Support alignment to GSK and simplification by collaboration with the Global Medical Director.
• Understand, deliver, improve and report services in alignment with GSK’s medical processes.
• Evaluate, assess, and fully characterize worker health in relation to specific job activities, hazards and risks, to maximize ability to work safely and efficiently for the Belgium Biologicals employees.
• Evaluate, diagnose, and manage health problems related to work activities or the work environment.
• Fully characterize the worksite as related to health, providing recommendations to decrease risk, improve health, and enhance performance.
• Provide medical directives for the GSK occupational health nurses.
• Support the Belgium Biologicals businesses in maximizing population health and productivity in partnership with:

1. Global Medical Director
2. Belgium Biologicals business units leads and EHS partners
3. HR department

• Fully understand GSK and GSK Bio programs. Become an active member of the wellbeing committee and a supporter / facilitator for the energy and resilience programs.
• Collaborate with the Global Medical Director and the global team by regularly evaluating the scope of services and determining optimal programs, delivery infrastructure and quality, personal initiatives.
• Understand the Belgium operations objectives. Manage local projects with matrixed/virtual reporting structure in order to help achieve key business objectives and to deliver solutions of the highest standards to customers,
• Prepare, present, control and optimize budget and opportunity costs.
• Represent the medical services at the CPPT meetings.
• This role is accountable for strategic health planning and service delivery of employee health services for the Belgium Bio businesses.
• Compliance to GSK and legal standards preventing business loss and legal cost avoidance.
• Impacting on infrastructure costs ~ health engineering design, medical service needs.
• Increasing employee productivity
• Improved employee attendance and retention.
• Protecting and improving GSK Bio’s image and recruitment potential.
• Other health related costs to business ~ medical insurance, workers comp. etc.
• The role serves to support excellence in employee health and wellbeing, through a customer-service oriented approach in the GSK Bio Belgium businesses. This requires focus, discipline and excellent people management skills to engage business partners in achieving impact.
• High degree of complexity ensuring Employee Health & Performance medical strategy and policies align with both GSK’s corporate and Biologicals business requirements.
• High degree of matrix working, as this role will be required to support, drive and monitor process and quality improvement efforts with the mixed reporting model for the staff, accountable for delivering on these improvements.
• Managing the Belgium medical service across various Belgium sites (Rixensart, Wavre and Gembloux). The role requires medical staff oversight of about 10 GSK staff members, medical service providers and > 7000 employees.
• The job holder will be empowered and accountable to work autonomously, agreeing strategic and policy decisions with senior management and business partners.
• The job holder requires substantial influencing skills and coaching capability in order to be successful. It will be necessary to influence decision making at local leader level through skilful and clear application of health related knowledge, information and metrics.
• Coaching and mentoring skills are required to develop Belgium staff talent within the medical service.
• Facilitation skills/delivery of key cutting edge programmes e.g. Energy for Performance
• Will deliver the medical service activity adhering to the following underlying principles:
