Responsibilities:
  • Lead all aspects of the structural engineering design development for the Topsides Project, throughout the project life from early front-end engineering through to project close-out, to ensure that overall project cost, schedule, safety and quality objectives are achieved.
  • Take a proactive approach to incorporating safety into the Topsides design and adopting the principle of inherent safety wherever possible. Work with fellow PMT discipline engineers and contractor engineers to develop engineering solutions which minimise the potential for incidents throughout the project and subsequent field-life. Responsible for proactively managing the project safety performance.
  • Develop and deliver a world-class weight management process throughout the project to maintain control over the module weight throughout the project phases, whilst understanding any associated design trade-offs.
  • Coordinate engagement with heavy-lift contractor to ensure that structural design includes all transportation and installation loads and that T&I is fully integrated with the project activities.
  • Manage all structural discipline technical interfaces between the host platforms , and the subsea project.
  • Expedite the project plan to deliver high quality solutions consistent with the agreed Topsides Project objectives and deadlines.
  • Liaising with the PMT construction engineer to ensure the development of highly constructable structural design solutions.
  • Assist with development of key project management system deliverables including the Statement of Requirements and Basis of Design, and any other discipline-specific deliverables associated with each phase of the MS process.
  • Ensure compliance with the Project Management System (MS).
  • Work in compliance with the agreed management of change and risk management processes. Act as Focal Point for any discipline-specific management of change, specification changes, deviations, etc. to quantify and manage associated quality, cost and/ or schedule impacts.
  • Ensure that the structural design in all areas of responsibility is in accordance with the Basis of Design, Company HSE and quality standards, and relevant codes and specifications.
  • Assist in development or updating, review and approval of all applicable engineering deliverables, including specifications, reports, drawings, data sheets, calculations etc. relevant to the discipline.
  • Responsible for review and acceptance of all structural and marine deliverables from engineering contractor, including lifting operations, in-place, weight control, load-out, sea-fastening, and transportation and heavy-lift installation.
  • Responsible for ensuring adequate structural modelling of any impact of the project on the existing structures (topsides and jackets), including fatigue analysis, has been undertaken at the appropriate time in the project development process.
  • Ensure that all structural materials and welding specifications are reviewed by specialists.
  • Responsible for raising any areas of concern with the engineering manager at the earliest opportunity.
  • Organisational Fit:
  • Reports to the Project Engineering Manager.
  • Interface with discipline engineers, technical authorities and other personnel within engineering contractors/ consultants, vendors, project Subsea Team and Contractor Firms.
Essential skills/ experience:
  • Qualified to Degree level in structural engineering or related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer or equivalent.
  • Relevant discipline experience within oil and gas industry, preferably with experience of working on a similar project including heavy-lift and brownfield elements.
  • Previous offshore experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with structural engineering software such as STAAD and SESAM.
  • Highly motivated, proactive problem-solving individual with strong interpersonal skills, ability to self-start, work unsupervised, take a lead and show initiative.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills.
  • Commercial and contractual awareness.
  • Ability to communicate technically complex/ novel concepts to non-specialists.
