Engineering Graduate Programme 2012 British Airways

Safety is our first priority. Everything we do in British Airways Engineering is focused on exactly this. We operate a growing fleet of over 230 aircraft on our global network, and Engineering plays a critical role in keeping the whole operation running safely and punctually.

Initially based at Heathrow, but with opportunities to work at our other locations, you’ll be part of the new talent we’re injecting into the Engineering technical support function to address the challenges facing the business.

Over two years, you’ll work with a broad cross-section of our engineering support teams, developing a wide range of skills and capabilities to take on a more permanent role in one of the following areas:

Engineering Services Design and Technical – Helping introduce new technologies and compile modifications, repairs and certification requirements, you’ll learn how aircraft maintenance schedules are developed and controlled, and how we meet compliance with mandatory and routine data requirements.

Heavy Maintenance Technical – Here’s where you’ll begin to understand the aircraft technical issues as they arise during the maintenance check, work with the airframe manufacturer, and identify innovative solutions that keep the check schedule.

Engineering Quality – As part of this team, you’ll learn how British Airways Engineering remains in compliance with all the necessary airworthiness regulatory requirements and as the recognised industry leader.

Powerplant/Engine Management, Operational Support and Asset Management – This team ensures the safety and reliability of the British Airways engine fleet, and our long-term engine management practices, integrating technical requirements with innovative commercial agreements and strict financial governance. Join them, and you’ll protect the daily operation of our engines and APUs, and deal with defects reported on the day together with shorter-term engine management issues. It will also see you work with external and internal suppliers to ensure we always have the right engine available to support British Airways operations. The team includes our on-site engine repair facility and engine health-monitoring laboratory.

Overhaul Support – A role here will give you unique access to the engine internal hardware, and help you learn our techniques for intelligent work scoping and delivering reliability while controlling costs.

No matter which team you work within, you’ll need to be comfortable working in a dynamic environment that requires sound technical decision-making in tight timescales. You’ll need to think logically, showing strong analytical, problem solving and clear communication skills, yet be flexible, open-minded, inquisitive and aware of the business issues behind each project.

British Airways Engineering Graduate Programme 2012
Beyond that you’ll need a 2:1 degree (or equivalent), in Aeronautical, Mechanical or Electronic Engineering and a commitment to a career in the field. You must also be prepared to spend some time in the various technical support areas as part of the development programme and pass a Criminal Record Check at an Enhanced Disclosure level.
