Newcrest's Lihir Island operation is located 900kms north-east of Port Moresby, in the New Ireland Province. The site is one of the world's largest gold mines and processing facilities, consisting of 3 linked open pits - Minifie, Lienetz and Kapit. We have a large team of over 4,000 people working in this significant operation.

Reporting to the Coordinator Maintenance Planning, this position will provide maintenance planning leadership to support and achieve optimisation, availability and reliability of the gold processing plant. The Senior Maintenance Planner will lead the Fixed Plant Shutdown Planning Section to ensure that all activities meet high standards of safety and maintenance practices.

Key elements of the position include:

• Lead Planners to prepare shutdown maintenance work orders and schedules.
• Ensure that planned maintenance tasks are scheduled in a timely manner.
• Developing means to utilise Ellipse computerised preventative maintenance program to the best advantage.
• Managing planned maintenance team targets and key performance indicators.
• Developing methods to provide continuous improvement in the maintenance planning function.
• Providing coaching, mentoring and guidance to planning personnel to encourage their skills development consistent with Newcrest policies.
• Assisting the Maintenance Superintendents in developing the annual maintenance budget.
• Assisting with the section's budget planning and control.
• Leading and encouraging section personnel in all departmental activities, including skills training, communications and safety toolbox meetings.
• Transferring technical skills to subordinate planning personnel.

We are seeking:

• A trade certificate in a Mechanical discipline with additional relevant qualifications preferred.
• At least five (5) years experience maintaining fixed plant equipment in the mining or resources processing industry is essential, with a further five (5) years in a maintenance planning capacity.
• Proven track record driving and leading a planning team in a technically challenging and geographically remote environment.
• Knowledge of Ellipse/MIMS or similar computerised maintenance management systems. Exposure to SAP will be highly regarded.
• Experience in determining planned maintenance schedules.
• Demonstrated commitment to budgetary control.
• Competent with Microsoft suite of programs, including Project.
• Demonstrated performance in leading maintenance teams and line accountabilities.
• Have a proven track record in working with multi-disciplinary teams on multiple projects.
• Be an effective communicator of complex issues, both through written reports and presentations in English.
• Some understanding of PNG culture and customs would be an advantage.

This is a vital role in the Maintenance Planning Section and requires a reliable and committed person who is able to work safely and responsibly at all times. Your excellent communication skills, ability to plan, organise and manage maintenance planning priorities will be the key to your success.
